Many people assist in the work of Amazon Relief, both in the United States and in the Amazon. Administration in the United States is coordinated by Jim Flickinger, OFS. Jim has degrees from Aquinas College (BA, 1968) and the University of Notre Dame (JD, 1971). He is a fomer Minister (1995-2001) of Our Mother of Sorrows Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order and has served as the Peace and Justice Commissioner for the Divine Mercy Regional Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order.
Jim is involved in several ministries to the poor, including Bosnian-Croatian Relief (delivering medicine and medical equipment to the former Yugoslavia), World Hope (providing aid to the world’s poor), and Instruments of Peace (feeding inner-city poor and homeless).
Jim is the recipient of many awards for his humanitarian work, including the National Franciscan Peace Award, the Bishop Francis J. Haas Social Justice Award, the St. Thomas More Award, the Hugh Michael Beahan Award for Social Justice, and the University of Notre Dame’s St. Yves Award.
