Stefany's Story
Stefany was born on January 14, 1999, into a poor family with two siblings. Her parents made and sold flower pots to support the family. Life during her childhood was difficult but Stefany was filled with great faith. Through your generous support, Stefany's journey took a turn for the better in 2009 when she enrolled in the “Raio de Luz” (Ray of Light) educational program, made possible by Amazon Relief.
Stefany was a dedicated student, intelligent and filled with love for God and neighbor. She excelled in her studies and consistently achieved the best grades in school. Thanks to the additional tutoring, skills and love she received through the “Raio de Luz” program, Stefany was able to graduate high school with honors in 2016.
In 2017, Stefany’s dreams of serving her brothers and sisters came true as she was accepted into the Centro Universitário Luterano – ULBRA to study nursing. In August of 2022, Stefany graduated from the university with a degree in nursing. Currently, Stefany works as a nurse and is pursuing an MBA in Hospital Management and Health Services from the University of São Paulo.
Faith in God has always played a central role in Stefany’s life and she is thankful for the many blessings bestowed upon her. She is active in the liturgy group at St. Francis of Assisi parish in Manaus where she serves as a cantor and guitarist during Mass and other celebrations.
In the words of Raimunda Araújo da Silva Freitas and Josué Dutra de Freitas, Directors of the “Raio de Luz” educational program:
“It is with great gratitude that we thank Amazon Relief who contributed to the achievement of the dreams of Stefany Duarte, who today has become a great professional, contributing to the health of the people of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil and a shining example for many children and young people.”
“May God fill with blessings all the families of the benefactors of Amazon Relief who greatly help many poor children, and young adults in the Amazon Region, putting into practice the words of Jesus: ‘Truly, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brethren of mine, you did for me’ (Mt 25:40) and ‘These things I command you, to love one another.’ (Jn 15:17)”
Money alone cannot fix the brokenness in the Amazon or the world, only love. Your donation is so much more than mere financial support. It is a gift of love and a seed of hope. Please continue to open your hearts to our brothers and sisters in the Amazon.
